How to Turn Your Home Into an African-inspired Dream Home

Are you looking for a way to turn your home into an African-inspired dream home? It’s actually a lot easier than you think. If you look at any design or decor magazine or TV show, it’s mostly modern, open-floor plan ideas, and while that is incredibly beautiful, you can still add some African-inspo without losing the appeal.

There are so many ways to go about completing this project, and a lot of it you can do yourself. Just by visiting your local hardware/home supply store, you can find inspiration just walking up and down the aisles. For example, if you are looking for a way to transform your living room, you can grab various types of wood in different shades and make a long banquet table and use the scraps to add some flare to your wall.

A pop of color is a very easy way to add to your African-theme to any room in the house. If you’re especially handy, consider making some curtains out of African fabric. Go to a local fabric store and grab something that speaks to you and your design idea. Why spend the money on expensive drapes when you can make your own? Consider draping the fabric over your existing curtain rods to create a swag effect. This adds instant color and an African touch with minimal effort.

In addition to the curtains, the bedroom is a great room to redecorate. Find a faux-fur rug to match the colorful drapes, and a large wood-framed bed to tie it all together. If you still have some wood left over from the banquet table, consider staining and painting them to add some more flare to your bedroom walls.

Lastly, find some local African art from a local artist or shop that supports African artists. This will tie the whole theme together, while supporting an individual artist or even community. If you cannot afford to buy something, you can find something online or always paint your own! The possibilities are endless!
